Děkujeme / Thank you so much / Tack så mycket

Frank Lundgren a Jens Nilsson

The final event took place as planned before on Thursday 24th June 2010.

I would like to express my thanks to every person, who participated on realisation of the project We're in the same chicken. Many thans to the schools, the teachers, pupils and parents, who have been parts of the projekct and through their participation made the whole event live.

Not everything has ended up seccessfully, however, when taking a look at the website, you may see many events that happened, ou find the contacts made, you may realise how much work and ethusiasm must have been created to make it all happen. The whole team

Lukáš Schejbal, Lucka Dohnálková, Pavla Šulcová, Frank Ludgren and Jens Nilsson

created a perfect working group and worked in a perfect way according to the project I have initiated. I would love to express my deep thanks to them. I am very pleased that I have had the posibility to meet them through this project, it has been an honour for me to meet them as well as all the other wonderful poeple who happened to meet our project.

Thank you so much.

Barbora Martinková

A memory for life

A memory for life

When you visit another country on vacations, you most often go see the most famous places and attractions. The most popular and well known attractions are things to be put on a checklist. At least I fell this urge when I travel, there are things that you are supposed to do and places you should see.

What might seem like a paradox is that when travelling as a tourist, especially in large cities you seldom get any deeper understanding about the country. It is not unusual that there are more people from other nations present where tourists do their sightseeing… The only native people you actually meet are those you meet in stores, shops and hotels. It is as if you are in a bubble for tourists.

That was the major difference for me when I got the chance to participate in the “One chicken project”. When we flew from Sweden we knew that we were going to visit Brno, Prague, Vsetin and Zlin. We didn’t know where we were going to live, all we had was electronic buss tickets and receipts for some hotel nights. In short we had to trust our hosts…

This turned out to be the most interesting travel I have ever done. Not only did our hosts have excellent knowledge about anything worth knowing about the Czech Republic. They are living individuals of the culture and history of the CZ. This meant that they could give living descriptions of history and how this affected everyday life. What I found particularly interesting was to hear about communism and how the regime influenced everyday life. I am not from the Czech Republic, I cannot understand a word of the Czech language. But when I visited Prague during the anniversary of the Velvet revolution together with my Czech friends I realised, how large the mark that communism left on the people of the Czech Republic is. We where standing among the crowd at the twentieth year anniversary of the Velvet revolution. The atmosphere was amazing, the air was filled with excitement and hopes for the future. I didn’t even have to understand what was being said to fell the excitement. I had read a lot of history before I visited the Czech Republic, I had read about the communistic regime in the CZ. It was obvious that it was a destructive system. However, some things have to be experienced to be fully understood. The time spent together with people from the CZ on a daily basis gave me a deeper understanding of the country’s dramatic history.

I have learnt a lot from visiting schools in the Czech Republic. What struck me were the similarities to Swedish schools, the children didn’t wear school uniforms and the atmosphere at the schools was very familiar. All the school gave us very warm welcomes. I think that our presentation was quite well received. Of course there are things that I would like to improve if I got a chance to do the same thing again.

To sum it up the planning and preparations of our hosts have given me memories for life.

This was very useful when we planned our presentation about the Czech Republic at Alviksskolan. This experience will also be an asset in my future work as a teacher.

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who have contributed to making my time in the Czech Republic a memory for life.

The project; ”We are in the same chicken” have meant so much to us, not only because we´ve got the opportunity to go to the CR but also for getting to know so much nice people. The students of the schools in both CR and Sweden have been wonderful.  And the organizers in the CR have helped us so much both when we were over there and when we have worked with the project over here in Sweden.

We have learned so much about the differences and the similarities of our countries and that have made us enlightened. Before we went to the CR we didn´t know the reality of Communism for instance. We are studying to become teachers both of us and I think that this project have made us better as future teachers.  Know we know so much about how the school system for instance works in both of the countries that for one is something that all teachers should know about.

After and before our visit to the beautiful Česká republika we have been to several schools in Sweden as well and we are so glad for all the support that we have received for the project in the schools.

We had some problems in the beginning here in Sweden to make the website work, but it took off and today we can see really interesting intercultural discussions there.  We can also look at the pictures from the early days of the project and follow both the Check girls and the Swedish boys’ travels (in picture gallery) to today.

Thank you all!

//Frank & Jens
